WHY WE TRI

With our Sincerely Yours letters all sent and Triple Play coming up, we wanted to continue the discussion on St. Jude and what it means to us as a chapter, really explaining our heart behind “Why We Tri”.  Our chapter doesn’t just “do” philanthropy, we live to support St. Jude and its mission through our membership. St. Jude is so unique and so special, and we want to highlight some of the most amazing parts of it.

St. Jude wants to reclaim the experiences of the children being treated there in a positive way.  Sickness, no matter what age, is unpleasant, but being diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses at a young age is terrifying.  St. Jude seeks to calm those fears, rest those worries, and bring about a spirit of hope and happiness in an unsure time.

St. Jude makes sure that those memories are still made and that children are as comfortable and happy as possible while at the hospital, and they do this through a number of ways.  First and foremost is the level of care they treat patients with. St. Jude is at the top of their field scientifically, with no plans to stop moving forward. Because of their extensive knowledge and dedication to care, they bring a unique combination to a child’s treatment.

Secondly, St. Jude makes sure that the children who are there continue to have the same experiences they would as if they were healthy.  One of our favorite areas at St. Jude that exemplifies this is the teen room, a place that no parents are allowed, only teenagers. This gives them time to be with their peers and enjoy the fun of friendship without compromising their health.  At the beginning of our partnership with St. Jude, Tri Delta’s across the country raised one million dollars a year earlier than expected to endow this project. Things have only gone up from there!

Our Sincerely Yours campaign is incredibly important to us, but not our only philanthropy project.  In a week, we will be holding our spring philanthropy event called TRIPLE PLAY. Triple Play is a softball tournament we hold every year to raise money for St. Jude.  It is the most fun, and with teams coming from all corners of campus to compete, we are always sure to have a competitive game.  Friends come to cheer, dads come to umpire, and a grill with hot dogs is always to be found. We love Triple Play not just for the money raised for St. Jude , but the sense of community and family that it fosters around such a worthy cause.

If you want to get in on the fun and join us for Triple Play, we would LOVE to have you! It starts at 10 am at Nettles Park, right off of the Issaqueena Trail exit.  If you would like to create a team, the link to sign up for one is here. If you cannot make it, but would like to make a donation or offer supplies, our Internal Philanthropy Chair Porter Johnson would love to get in contact with you.  Her email is pcj@clemson.edu.

We cannot wait to see you for another year of Triple Play, and see just Why We Tri!
