ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL
In 1999, Tri Delta established a national philanthropic partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This partnership provides our members with wonderful opportunities to grow as individuals and leaders as we help children LIVE, scientists LEARN, and St. Jude LEAD in its mission of finding cures for childhood cancer and other life threatening diseases. Our alumnae chapters support local and regional children’s hospitals and pediatric cancer initiatives across North America and we partner together to support St. Jude’s Walk/Run and Memphis Marathon by forming teams, raising money, and volunteering at these events. Today, our collegiate members play a critical role in our fundraising for St. Jude with campus events such as our Triple Play softball tournament, Sincerely Yours Letter Writing, Delta House of Pancakes, proceeds nights, and 12k in a day social media challenge.
This year we raised a total of $150,000 for St. Jude, earning us 3rd in the country for Tri Delta chapters.
A message from our director of philanthropy
My name is Karen Shenouda, and I am honored to serve as Beta Theta’s 2025 Director of Philanthropy! I am beyond lucky to be able to support our extraordinary philanthropy, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and to do so with the help of such an incredible group of girls. St. Jude is an organization whose mission deeply inspires me and the rest of the girls in our chapter. There is no greater feeling than being able to work together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families who need it most. Tri Delta has given me the greatest gift of combining purpose, service, and sisterhood in my role, and it has been an unforgettable experience that I would not trade for the world! There are no words to describe my gratitude to Tri Delta for all it has given me, but most importantly, the amazing opportunity to serve St. Jude!
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment and to ensure that no child with cancer or other catastrophic diseases is denied treatment because of financial need. As a chapter, we hold numerous philanthropic fundraising events to ensure that St. Jude can continue its phenomenal work and carry out its mission. This past year, we raised over $150,000 as a chapter for St. Jude and were recognized as the 3rd highest fundraising chapter in the nation! This accomplishment is a testament to our chapter's dedication and compassion for our philanthropy. Every dollar we raise helps fund groundbreaking research, life-saving treatments, and promises that families will never receive a bill from St. Jude for care, travel, housing, or food. As we look ahead to the coming year, I’m beyond excited to continue holding events that make this possible. Our chapter has two main philanthropy events each year. The first is our letter-writing event in the fall, which includes mailing letters to our families and friends nationwide to encourage donations. Each year, we do this together as a chapter, where we all gather to package our letters and listen to the story of a St. Jude family who comes and speaks to us. It is always very impactful to our chapter to have the opportunity to listen to a St. Jude family’s story firsthand, and it is a great way to begin our year in the fall with the reminder of the incredible importance of what we do each year. Our second event of the year is Triple Play! Triple Play is a campus-wide softball tournament that occurs in the spring! It is a fun-filled day that includes gathering the Clemson community and enjoying music, food, and games, all for the purpose of raising money for St. Jude. It is a great way to educate others about St. Jude's work, and it brings the community together to support our cause. We also hold other smaller-scale events throughout the year, such as a 12K in a day social media fundraising challenge, and our Delta House of Pancakes fundraiser.
Beta Theta is proud of all that we accomplish throughout the year and of our ability to do so in fun and exciting ways that bring our chapter together and the Clemson community as a whole! Tri Delta and St. Jude will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I have Tri Delta to thank for the amazing opportunity to serve in this position that has been so fruitful in my life.
