Why Tri Delta #17
Written by: Kellen Lott, Assistant VP of Public Relations
I’ve always heard the phrase “it takes a village” when people speak about raising children. It made perfect sense; growing up is tough, and you need a lot of people in your corner to help you grow in a positive way. As a girl slowly making her way into adulthood, I can say that I still need that village; in-fact I need it now more than ever. I need my village to remind me of my values, when I want to take the easy way out. I need my village to encourage me when life gets tough and I’m feeling frustrated. Most importantly though, I need a village that’s for me and with me always, no matter what. Thankfully, I found that in Tri Delta. I like to tell people when describing my group of friends in Tri Delta that I have one for every occasion. They are all smart, kind and charismatic, but each has a special, specific trait that I can count on them employing when the situation requires it. I could go on and on if you asked me, naming my sisters in Tri Delta and the characteristics that I find so special about all of them, because they are all so unique in their talents and gifts. I know no matter what the problem is I have at least someone that will be there with me through it. But what is so special about this group is that even if I only need that one person, ALL of them will be there anyways, ready to champion me or comfort me in whatever may be going on in my life. Life in general can be rough, and adjusting to college is even rougher. I can say without a doubt that the things I’ve faced in my past two years at Clemson have been exceedingly more difficult than anything I have ever dealt with before. I can also say without a doubt that these relationships are what got me through them. I could never accurately put into words the warm and fuzzy feeling I get when I get to be around these people and share my life with them, because they make me my best me without even trying. I couldn’t be more thankful for my village.
