Bid Day 2017

Written by: Hannah Reen, VP of Recruitment Assistant

First off, I would like to thank Tri Delta for allowing me to be a part of this year’s recruitment process.  I am completely humbled by the support, love, and excitement from every member these past few weeks.  It’s time like these that show, yet again, why Tri Delta means so much to me.  Throughout the sleepless nights, endless Starbucks runs, lost voices, unplanned schedules, and moody stress levels, one thing kept everyone going, the light at the end of the tunnel, BID DAY! (Also s/o to everyone who loved me even during my chaotic recruitment self for 3 straight weeks). Bid Day not only means the end of recruitment, but that every effort put forth in the past 6 months would be made worth it.  And let me tell you something, it was so worth it.

Every year, our new girls race down the hill on Bowman Field, celebrate, take pictures, and rush on to the rest of the night at The Calhoun Houses, home to some of our Tri Delta sistas. Waking up on August 28th may have been better than Christmas! We were about to welcome our new best friends into the best 4 years of their lives.

As the day went on, we anxiously sat through our classes, planned outfits in our head, and put the final touches on the amazing decorations at The Calhoun Houses.  When 5:00 finally rolled around, the video of the final Tri Delta bid list was released, and we knew that it was finally happening! And as 68 names were shouted out on the video, Bowman Field was rushing with adrenaline and screaming with excitement and cheers. Finally it reached 6:30, and we were able to welcome our new sistas into our arms!

Our Bid Day theme this year was “Life in 3D”, so imagine putting on your 3D glasses and the world popping out in front of you.  We went above and beyond with bright colors, pink hair, and way too much glitter.  As we pulled up to The Calhoun Houses and saw the string lights, streamers, and Tri Delta letters, you couldn’t help but smile.  Cupcakes, cotton candy, pop rocks, popcorn, watermelon, and of course the icing on the cake -Todoro’s Pizza. A girl’s gotta eat!! Our new sisters were gettin' jiggy in the dance circle and jamming to the Bid Day spotify playlist.  We all belted out our Pref rap “From Manninggg to the Quad”, took more pictures, and ended the night with sparklers and fireworks - you just couldn’t ask for anything more.

Watching 68 girls run down a hill into the arms of their 178 new best friends is quite an unforgettable moment, and words will never do that experience justice.  To our new best friends: you are quirky, unique, independent, selfless, and beautiful on the inside AND out! Thank you for making this recruitment process SO worth it.  Bid Day 2017 was just the ice breaker to the greatest year of your life. We can’t wait to share Tri Delta with you. Go Tigers, Go Greek, and as always, Go Tri Delta!
