Letter Writing 2017

March 5, 2017

On February 22, we mailed 10,585 letters to our friends and family in an effort to raise money for our philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude is changing the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers, and treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since it opened more than fifty years ago. Seventy-five percent of our chapter's fundraising comes from letter writing and last year our chapter raised over $100,000 for this incredible philantropy. We are hoping to surpass that amount this year. Last week we held a "stamping party," where our members put the finishing touches on all of their letters. As we stamped, our morale committee kept our spirits high, showing up dressed as as our founder, Sara Ida Shaw. We also played games and won prizes. We were also lucky enough to have our St. Jude rep, Olivia, come and give us a presentation about St. Jude and motivate us as we take on our fundraising initiatives throughout the semester. Our next event will be Triple Play, which will be on April 2. We look forward to continuing our efforts to help this incredible philanthropy. Thank you again to those of you that gave! Go Tri-Delt and Go St. Jude!
